President

Professor Nix is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Euro University of Bahrain. He previously worked for 3 years as the Vice Chancellor of Alasala University (Dammam, KSA); and 27 years in various leadership roles at the University of Bristol (Bristol, UK), including working as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Head of the Electrical and Engineering Department, and the Head of the Communication Systems & Networks group.
 
Professor Nix was awarded BEng and PhD degrees in Engineering from the University of Bristol in 1989 and 1993 respectively. He was promoted to a full professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bristol in 2001. He is a passionate and accomplished lecturer and an internationally respected researcher. He has published more than 600 international papers and successfully supervised more than 65 PhD students.
 
As Dean of the Engineering Faculty at Bristol, Professor Andrew led the construction of a new £20m Engineering Wing and oversaw the academic management of a Faculty with 3,500 students, 400 staff and an annual budget of £85m. Professor Andrew worked with the UK government to help shape future government policies, strategies and laws covering the use of autonomous vehicles. He worked with senior colleagues to draw together expertise on subjects such as deliberative public engagement, anticipatory governance, and digital social innovation. He was a co-investigator on the University of Bristol team that secured a £110m Research Partnership Investment Fund that formed the University of Bristol’s Institute of Digital Futures. Professor Andrew encouraged large-scale inter-disciplinary projects that addressed the social and community implications of a hyper-connected digital society.
 
Professor Andrew is well-known for his ground-breaking research contributions to the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards. More recently, Professor Andrew’s 5G wireless research has been globally recognised for tackling societal challenges related to smart cities, urban transport and healthcare.
 
Professor Andrew has a track record of forming strong links with academics and industry in China, North America, Europe and the Middle East. He has worked closely with international companies such as Nokia, Huawei and National Instruments.
 
Professor Andrew has co-founded three technology start-ups and has extensive experience advising small and large technology businesses, including acting as an expert witness for Apple in 2013. He is a named inventor on 20 international patents.
