Frequently Asked Questions

What is the International Foundation Programme (IFP)?

The IFP is a one-year programme that will equip you with the academic and English language skills required to succeed in an undergraduate degree at Euro University of Bahrain (EUB). It introduces you to European higher education teaching styles. The IFP is designed and assessed by the University of London (UoL). Students enrolled on the IFP are registered as students of both EUB and UoL.

What are the entry requirements for the IFP?

You will need a Bahrain General Secondary Education Certificate with a 75% average or above in Years 10, 11 and 12. You will also need an IELTS score of 5.5 overall, with 5.0 in each sub-test (Academic), or an equivalent English language qualification awarded within the past two years. If you do not have a recent IELTS certificate contact us to learn how we can help you to meet this requirement. The IFP will consider other qualifications on a case-by-case basis – contact us to learn more.

What subjects will I study during the IFP?

The IFP consists of core academic modules, English study skills modules and modules on the Bahrain education system. The four core academic modules are Mathematics and Statistics, Economics, Law, and Business and Management. The English modules are Academic English 1 and Academic English 2. The Bahrain national modules are Arabic Language, Bahrain History and Human Rights. The English modules aim to prepare you for undergraduate-level study at a UK university. They cover academic writing, referencing, speaking, reading, listening and effective learning strategies.

What are the progression options after completing the IFP?

After successfully completing the IFP, you can progress directly to year two of your undergraduate programme at EUB. You can choose from BSc Computing, LLB Law, or BSc Business Administration with optional specialisations in Human Resource Management, International Business or Marketing. Passing the IFP programme means you do not have to take any further IELTS examinations, and you will also have completed all the required compulsory Bahrain modules.

When you successfully complete the foundation programme you can also choose to apply to other national and international universities. For example, the IFP certificate allows you to apply for undergraduate entry to any UK university. Students who complete the IFP are guaranteed entry to several undergraduate degrees offered through the University of London.

You will receive support in choosing and organising your undergraduate enrolment during your IFP study.

What support is available to me as an IFP student?

At the start of the academic year, you will take part in a tailored IFP induction week. The IFP induction week aims to prepare you for your studies. You will be assigned an academic advisor who will support you with orientation, study skills and reviewing your results and progression. You will also work with your academic advisor on developing an employability folder, which will help you focus on your future degree choices and employment prospects. In addition, EUB has a student services team to support student wellbeing and pastoral care and to organise extra-curricular activities. The student services team can help if you are struggling with your studies.

What is the pass rate for the IFP?

Typically more than 90% of registered students graduate each year from our IFP.

How are the core academic modules assessed in the IFP?

Assessment are typically divided into two types:

  • Written examinations: These are held twice a year, in September and March, at EUB
  • Coursework: This involves assignments, projects, and practical tasks, which are submitted through our dedicated VLE.

Each module is typically assessed through a combination of written examinations and coursework, with different weightings depending on the specific module.
