Career Development in Computer Science

Career Development in Computer Science

Career development approach

The College of Computing at Euro University of Bahrain (EUB) prepares students for careers in technology through academic rigour, guided professional learning, internships, applied projects and co-curricular activities. These opportunities complement the University of London (Goldsmiths) curriculum and support students in developing technical competence, professional confidence and employability, aligned with Bahrain Vision 2030.

Professional certification and career pathways

The College encourages students to work towards at least one relevant professional certification or structured industry learning pathway before graduation. The College’s Industry Expert Committee has recommended professional courses and certifications across Levels 4, 5 and 6. These are recommended development opportunities and are not requirements of the University of London B.Sc. Computer Science programme. Academic Advisors support students in selecting suitable options based on their interests, academic level, career goals, prerequisites and availability. Depending on readiness and workload, students may pursue one or two appropriate options during an academic year.

The following pathway is intended to guide students towards relevant professional learning while they complete their degree.

Thursday is allocated to professional certificate training and co-curricular activities within the College’s academic schedule. The College also facilitates access to learning opportunities through platforms and partners such as Pluralsight, Red Hat Academy and, where applicable, Tamkeen Bahrain-supported initiatives. Access, sponsorship, examination arrangements and places remain subject to eligibility, prerequisites, provider requirements and availability.

Pluralsight

The College strengthens students’ technical skills and career preparation through supported learning on Pluralsight. The platform provides more than 6,500 expert-led courses and structured learning pathways across artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data, software development and IT operations. Resources include practical labs, skills assessments and professional certification preparation, supporting progression from foundational to advanced learning.

Pluralsight learning complements academic study by helping students connect theoretical knowledge with industry practice, strengthen technical confidence and prepare for internships, professional certification examinations and future careers in computing.

Red Hat Academy

The College supports students’ technical and professional development through Red Hat Academy, with opportunities to build practical skills in open-source technologies. Learning pathways include Linux system administration, automation, cloud computing, container technologies, application development and artificial intelligence, supported by online course materials, laboratory activities and preparation for Red Hat’s performance-based certification examinations.

These opportunities complement academic study by helping students apply computing concepts in practical environments, develop industry-relevant problem-solving skills and continue their professional learning as technologies and workplace requirements evolve.

Internship achievements and industry experience

Internships allow students to experience professional working environments and apply their learning. Students may undertake suitable remote or on-site opportunities with Bahraini and international organisations. The College highlights these experiences to recognise student development and demonstrate the connection between computing studies and professional practice.

Organisation: Salahuddin Softtech Solutions (SSS)
Role and period: Research Analyst Intern, March to April 2026
Status: Internship completed

Lujain completed a Research Analyst internship at Salahuddin Softtech Solutions. The placement brief focused on technology and market research, product review and the development of business recommendations. In its completion letter, the organisation commended her punctuality, careful attention to instructions and willingness to ask questions.

Student projects and applied learning

The College encourages students to develop practical work that demonstrates how they apply computing concepts, use appropriate tools and communicate their ideas. Project and portfolio activities support problem-solving, creativity and professional development.

The following information comes from proposed learning roadmaps at The Collective Hub. It describes planned activities. Completed project outcomes and images will be supplied once the College has reviewed the students’ work and confirmed participation.

Planned activity: Media production and Python automation

The proposed roadmap combines introductory media production with computing applications. Planned activities include recording and editing short videos, exploring AI-assisted media tools, and using Python to automate tasks such as file renaming and folder organisation.

The intended portfolio includes short edited videos, a branded video template, a basic Python script, event photographs and a reflection on applying computing in a workplace setting.

Planned activity: Digital content and event organisation

The proposed roadmap focuses on digital design, communication and event support. Planned activities include creating Canva event designs, taking photographs, preparing event materials, organising information and drafting professional correspondence.

The intended portfolio includes event post designs, photographs, an event logistics checklist and a professional confirmation email template.
